New Book, “What You Know,” Offers Simple Tools for Tough Times

What You Know: Prompts and Practices from Trust Yourself with Money is available on Amazon (paperback and Kindle).

WILMINGTON, DE – May 13, 2022 – With higher prices at the gas pump and grocery store, many Americans are struggling to navigate financial waters. Tensions ensue between short-term needs and long-term goals, between external limitations and internal capacity.

Writer Brigitt Thompson, author of Trust Yourself with Money: Build Financial Confidence through the Simple Art of Saving, has released a new book to help readers tackle financial worry and procrastination. The book is called What You Know: Prompts and Practices from Trust Yourself with Money.

“Spending five minutes on a simple, tough, integrity-based task can be more powerful than spending an entire day listening to someone talk about generalities,” reflected Thompson. “There’s a kind of heft that goes along with truth and simplicity. The simplest things are often the hardest.”

Designed as a large-print, easy-to-read “cheat sheet,” What You Know focuses on straightforward principles, commonsense rules, and exercises that engage the imagination. What You Know offers new content exploring the primary themes from Trust Yourself with Money: self-inquiry, self-efficacy, curiosity, and personal agency.

“Somewhere between brutal realism and magical thinking is this sticky, elastic space where our perceptions can have an impact on our experiences,” says Thompson. “I talk about that space in What You Know. At a time when so much is outside of our control, it’s helpful to connect to even the smallest sliver of personal agency. Personal agency is our belief that we can have an impact on what happens in our own lives.”
