New Book Offers Common-Sense Tools for Fledgling Savers

Trust Yourself with Money: Build Financial Confidence through the Simple Art of Saving is available on Amazon, Audible, and Apple Books

WILMINGTON, DE – December 7, 2020 – As Americans struggle to adjust to social and financial changes spurred by the 2020 global pandemic, a new book by first-time author Brigitt Thompson offers an unconventional path toward financial stability. Trust Yourself with Money: Build Financial Confidence through the Simple Art of Saving provides a glimpse into the often invisible financial chaos endured by middle-income earners.

“Modern life requires us to hold multiple truths in our hearts and minds at the same time,” Thompson explains. “Yes, external circumstances do shape our experiences. Income inequality, systemic inequities, and vulnerabilities caused by changes in the economic climate all have an impact on our lives. At the same time, many of us are becoming curious about how our own choices and behaviors might also play a role in how our lives take shape.”

“The habits we cultivate during tough times come in handy when our life circumstances finally take an upturn.”

The Federal Reserve Board publishes the Report on the Economic Well-Being of U.S. Households each year. In the survey, respondents are asked if they can find $400 for an emergency, either from savings or from a credit card that will be paid off at the next statement. This statistic played a role in Thompson’s desire to write about overcoming obstacles to saving money.

“Using my own struggles and experiences as a starting point, I take readers through the process of using simple tools to become more effective, long-term savers,” says Thompson. “Reading the book still makes me emotional, especially chapter one. It’s still hard to relive the pain of that time.” The book details Thompson’s experiences in the years following the 2008 recession.

Trust Yourself with Money encourages the blending of mindset with practical action, and provides specific exercises, prompts, and principles to guide readers towards self-discovery. “When the earth is rumbling under your feet, it can be hard to feel hopeful,” Thompson says. “When it comes to navigating financial uncertainty, it helps to remember that life is always changing. The habits we cultivate during tough times come in handy when our life circumstances finally take an upturn. ”

Paperback and Kindle versions of the book are available on Amazon. The audiobook, narrated by Thompson, is available on Audible and Apple Books.
